You know, since the last blogs were getting you caught up and I haven't done the emotional, hope filled, where am I going this year, visionary post...so this is the first real blog of 2008.
I have written this blog in my head several times since last week, but have yet to sit down and put it to the computer, and now that I am here I am not sure where to start. Why is that? I am rarely at a loss for words.
I usually feel a tad bit depressed when the New Year dawn's - not the "usual" response is it. If you read most people's blogs you get that optomistic, warm fuzzy feeling of everything being new and fresh. Don't get me wrong, I get to that point, I just have to get over the fact that Christmas is over. Silly I know, but I get so sad. And this year was no exception...in fact perhaps a bit worse because our season was so choppy and the tree didn't light and warm the house for longer then 2 weeks. Now don't get me wrong, I realize that these are not the THINGS that make Christmas - but they are some of the things that make me FEEL warm and it was too short so I may start extra early in 2008!
Now that New Year's Day is actually MORE than a week behind us, I am coming out of the fog of woe is me, Christmas is over. I am being taken over by the, fresh start, clean slate, what do I want to accomplish this year and other such mantras running rampid through my mind.
Yesterday, my pictures arrived - the ones taken by Jake's sister and so I have "fresh" frames about....including the only one on my desk, which for 7.5 years (even at work) has always been one at my wedding of Jake and Brandon shaking hands. I still love that picture, but I replaced it with a picture of just Jake and I. Man, it sure catches my eye - in a good way. We don't look so bad for 2 kids and almost 8yrs of marriage, we haven't let our weight get too out of hand and our smiles are very genuine. I look at it and I get little butterflies. How strange. I guess there aren't too many recent pics of just the love of my life and me. Okay, none that I can really think of, not like this, of the professional sort, not since engagement....interesting.
Anyhow, so new pictures adorn the house and it is always a trip down memory lane when you open up the frame to see all that is in that frame, and then proceed to cover up the most recent picture. Kind of bitter sweet - the new picture is crisp and captures (in most cases) the kids in their current state of bliss, but what you cover up is a picture of the past, reminding you they are older and past that stage, sometimes I am not ready.
That is kind of how I feel about this year, I am not sure I was ready when the clock struck midnight and turned 2008. I felt like something was left undone, I don't have regrets in 2007, that I can think of. But I just wasn't ready. Guess what - God said we were going and so here we are. He said it was time for the journey of 2008, and I had to say okay. It is clean slate, just like when I say, "please forgive me", it is hopeful and full of joy - because He said it will be. There will be trials and tribulations, because that is a promise and when I need someone to know how I feel, HIS heart will beat with mine.
I have no resolutions, I have a few personal goals and I have made a few promises. Not because it is 2008 but because I feel like I am at a place in my life that certain things need to change, priorities shifted and passions rediscovered.
And at the end of this year it is my hope that each and every one of you will have a relationship with Christ that far surpasses your wildest dreams of anything you ever thought it could be....and then when you get there, remember it can get even better!
That is my biggest hope.
